Gender Links Madagascar has been an affiliate of the Gender Links regional office in South Africa since 2010. It was officially registered as a local NGO in March 2025.

Gender Links Madagascar works with 67 local councils across the island, implementing programmes in gender and governance; gender and entrepreneurship; gender and politics; and gender and media.

Gender Links’ Centres of Excellence (COEs) advance gender equality across Southern Africa in local government, media and media education.

  • In local government, gender is integrated into policies, planning and service delivery, including gender-based violence prevention and local economic development
  • In the media, gender-aware editorial practices and equal representation are promoted, supporting the SADC Gender Protocol
  • In media education, we work with training institutions to embed gender perspectives in curricula, creating a new generation of gender-conscious media professionals
