Zimbabwe: Empowered to rise

My name is Dawn Muchenje, and I am from Kariba. This program has been a game-changer for me, equipping me with the skills and knowledge to run a successful business. I've learned about record-keeping, customer care, pricing, and marketing strategies, which have been instrumental in my growth. As a single mother, I am now able to provide for my children and take them to good schools - it's a dream come true.

I joined the program in August 2023, during the LED programme phase one, and attended five mentorship visits with Gender Links. The mentorship has been invaluable, and I've seen significant growth in my business. I've applied new skills like record-keeping and digital marketing, which have been game-changers.

The program has helped me diversify my business, and I am now selling second-hand clothes, school bags, broiler chickens, and making freezits. The Council's support has been crucial, enforcing laws that restrict illegal vending and linking us with financial institutions like CABS. I've learned the importance of saving money and financial literacy.

The impact of this program extends beyond my business. I am now able to pay school fees for my children, and my community is my biggest supporter. The Council's efforts to enforce laws on street vendors have created a fair business environment.

But what's most exciting is the broader impact on society. The infrastructure constructed for us is promoting women empowerment and influencing policy implementation at a national level. I am proud to be part of this change, and I am grateful for the opportunities that this program has brought into my life.
