Monitoring for change
GL monitoring involves collection and analysis of data/information on a routine basis. It is conducted by internal team members and gives us a first-hand overview of the project to revise strategies as needed and make informed management decisions. We have gender-sensitive Monitoring and Evaluation (M&E) system that contains meaningful gender equality outcomes and indicators. GL M&E involves the collection of inclusive data, disaggregated by sex, age, and other dimensions that provide richer insights into gender differentials in knowledge, attitudes, access to services/resources and other outcomes. Gender Links use tools like Achemer, Good Grants, Moodle, Google Looker studio, Mentimeter to collect and analyse data.

Gender Links uses an array of automated data-gathering and analysis tools. These tools facilitate the extraction of information needed for research, management and reporting. The data from various online tools is automatically downloaded into a database that has been programmed to produce reports by date, sex, country, programme and several other variables.

Gender Links is moving beyond traditional monitoring to a feminist MEL approach that drives transformative change. Our 2026–2030 MEL Strategy positions MEL as a tool for social justice—capturing shifts in power, attitudes, and agency while ensuring accountability and learning.
Key priorities include:
- Digital integration: Real-time dashboards and automated reporting at regional and country levels.
- Participatory tools: Combining quantitative data with stories and scorecards to amplify lived experiences.
- Open access and transparency: Sharing knowledge widely to strengthen advocacy and partnerships.
- Proactive management: Monthly insights for agile decision-making and impact tracking. This evolution ensures MEL is not just about data—it’s about making change visible and actionable across Southern Africa.
