South Africa: Fagmeeda Bezuidenhout

Fagmeeda Bezuidenhout’s journey is rooted in care for her family and a deep commitment to uplifting her community. What began as a simple idea grew into Tessa’s Basic Food Enterprises, a business built on providing affordable food hampers and essential goods to families, the elderly, and those most in need. Through training and mentorship, she discovered her confidence, learned her rights as a woman, and gained practical skills—from using a computer and writing emails to managing stock, pricing, and customer relationships.

As her business expanded through social media, word of mouth, and visible local branding, so did her sense of purpose, transforming her enterprise into a family legacy and a source of community respect. Despite challenges such as rising costs, inconsistent customer income, and cash‑flow pressures, she adapted by improving packaging, adjusting hamper sizes, managing records carefully, and saving to reinvest in stock.

Today, her business supports her household, reduces financial stress, and stands as a meaningful example of social entrepreneurship—showing how compassion, resilience, and good business practice can create lasting impact for both family and community.
