Wrong Generation – a bold conversation starter

Wrong Generation: A Bold Film and Conversation Starter for the 16 Days of Activism Movement
As the world marks the 2025 16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence, we are proud to spotlight the official trailer release of Wrong Generation – The Film 2025; a powerful visual narrative that challenges silence, honours resistance, and fuels urgent conversations about gender justice and human rights.
Grounded in true events and inspired by Ndiilokelwa Nthengwe’s acclaimed 2022 book, You F*ed with The Wrong Generation: An Ode To Modern-Day Activism, the film follows a compelling story of resilience and collective uprising. After a series of brutal murders, culminating in the killing of their childhood friend, a group of estranged best friends reunites to organise the largest protest in post-Apartheid Namibia. This is more than a story. It is a reflection of the lived realities of gender-based violence (both digital and physical), systemic injustice, and the courage of communities who refuse to be silenced. It is a call to action for change and empowerment.
The trailer arrives at a critical moment where, across Southern Africa and globally, communities continue to confront rising violence, shrinking civic space, and persistent failures in justice systems. The Wrong Generation offers a potent tool to spark dialogue, amplify survivors’ voices, and strengthen solidarity during this year’s campaign. It serves as a reminder of the urgent need for collective action to address these issues and create a safer, more equitable world for all. The film’s message resonates with the themes of the 16 Days of Activism campaign, emphasising the importance of standing together against gender-based violence and injustice.
The film reminds us that activism, whether through protest, online organizing, art, community organising, or storytelling, is central to dismantling harmful systems and building safer, more equitable societies. With support from the EU-Marang Fund, the project extends cross-movement collaboration, as demonstrated by the exhibition piece that the Fund grantee partners collaborated on with the Women of the South Speak Out (WOSSO) fellows and the Renewed Women’s Voice and Leadership (RWVL) interns to perform in support of the Women for Change G20 Shutdown. This collaboration highlights the power of collective action in addressing systemic issues and creating positive change. By amplifying marginalised voices and fostering solidarity across different movements, the project aims to inspire others to join the fight against gender-based violence and injustice, deepening community connections across feminist, youth, LGBTIQ+, and human rights spaces.
