Mozambique: Representatividade de Mulheres na Comunicacao Social Ainda Aquem do desejado

The article examines the continued underrepresentation of women in decision-making positions within Mozambique’s media sector, despite an increase in the number of women entering journalism. It highlights that few women advance to leadership roles, while those who remain in the profession face stereotypes, workplace harassment and growing exposure to online violence.
The story reports on a roundtable discussion organized by MISA Moçambique, FORCOM and the European Union as part of the 16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence. Participants identified structural barriers to gender equality in the media and called for safer, more inclusive working environments for women journalists.
Speakers from FORCOM and the European Union stressed the importance of gender-sensitive journalism, institutional policies and coordinated action between government, civil society and media organizations. The article underscores that improving women’s representation and safety in the media is essential for democratic governance, inclusive public discourse, and equal participation.
