Gender Links Lesotho is an affiliate office of the Gender Links regional office. It envisions a society that is inclusive, equal and just for women and girls. The office advances gender equality and justice through evidence-based research, strategic advocacy, capacity building, movement and institution strengthening, and fostering learning and collaboration across sectors.
Key facts
COE programmes implemented in councils in Lesotho (10 urban and 40 rural), covering more than a million people and reaching 3 221 direct beneficiaries
councils participated in the Sunrise Campaign, focusing on empowering women and ending violence; 19 councils implemented SRHR action plans
men in Mokhotlong and Quthing participated in Husband School, engaging in dialogue on behaviour change and positive norms, and emerging as male gender champions within their homes and communities
Centres of Excellence
Gender Links’ Centres of Excellence (COEs) advance gender equality across Southern Africa in local government, media and media education.
- In local government, gender is integrated into policies, planning and service delivery, including gender-based violence prevention and local economic development
- In the media, gender-aware editorial practices and equal representation are promoted, supporting the SADC Gender Protocol
- In media education, we work with training institutions to embed gender perspectives in curricula, creating a new generation of gender-conscious media professionals
