Mauritius: Le mariage pour tous: la YQA et Freedom to Marry Global unissent leurs forces

The growing movement for marriage equality in Mauritius shows that the fight for equal marriage rights is not simply about legal reform, but about dignity, recognition, and the right to build and protect families. Through the strategy session led by the Young Queer Alliance in collaboration with Freedom to Marry Global, the article highlights how activists, legal advocates, and LGBTIQ organisations across the region are working collectively to challenge exclusion and push for a future where queer love is fully recognised under the law.

For queer couples, marriage equality represents more than a ceremony; it is access to inheritance, healthcare decisions, parental rights, and economic security. This article positions legal recognition as a form of protection and empowerment, affirming that love should never exist outside the law. By centring lived experiences and movement strategy, the article reminds us that visibility must include the power to choose, to belong, and to have our relationships respected as valid, valuable, and equal.
