Mauritius: Safe Haven Halfway Home Newsletter August 2021
Port Louis, 10 August: Gender Links Mauritius Safe Haven Halfway Home (SHHH) has been a place of refuge for 108 residents (including 48 children from 0 to 17 years old), most of whom needed immediate sheltering as they took control of their lives which have been marked by violence, poverty and discrimination. The SHHH is committed to the empowerment of our women beneficiaries and their children, providing a sanctuary with continuous emotional support and guidance. A case to case empowerment process is done where an assigned staff works with a resident to help them learn, unlearn and relearn. This change is slow as most residents have been brainwashed in their previous environment. Our dedicated team at SHHH are resilient and ensure that residents are given a second chance in life.Read the latest newsletter here
