GL@25: Gender Links' impact on my journey

Today I celebrate not only the incredible work of this organisation, but also the profound impact it has had on my own journey. Gender Links has been more than just an organisation to me - it has been a home.
Like a prodigal daughter, I have come and gone over the years, but I have always found my way back. Each time I returned, I was welcomed with the same warmth, purpose and commitment to advancing gender equality.
Gender Links played a significant role in shaping my career, my thinking and my passion for social justice. The opportunities to learn, to engage with communities, and to work alongside such dedicated activists and practitioners have left an indelible mark on my life. Many of my most meaningful professional memories were formed through this space – memories of growth, learning, and collective action.
Gender Links is also part of my personal story. While I was part of the Gender Links family, I gave birth to my son, Sinaye – a true GL baby – who will soon be turning 12 years old. This makes the journey even more special, as GL has been present not only in my professional growth but also in some of the most important moments of my life.
Thank you, Gender Links, for the doors you have opened, the values you have instilled, and the community you have built. I am proud to always be part of this family.
Here’s to many more years of championing equality, empowering communities and changing lives.
