Zoleka Manenzhe is a young women’s rights advocate from South Africa who is passionate about creating safe spaces where women and girls can speak up, walk with confidence and live with dignity. Her advocacy focuses on menstrual poverty, SRHR, sanitation and menstrual hygiene. She believes sanitary pads are a basic necessity and that no girl should miss school or opportunities because of her period.
Background
Zoleka has experience in community engagement, youth development, advocacy and administrative support. Her journey in the gender justice sector began as an intern, where she gained practical experience in advocacy, community mobilisation and programme support. Through her work with 1in9 Campaign, she has contributed to initiatives focused on gender equality, GBV prevention, feminist advocacy and social justice, while also supporting project administration, data collection, research, leadership development and finance processes.

Current Projects / Work
Zoleka is currently involved in advocacy and community based initiatives focused on young women’s empowerment, menstrual dignity and SRHR. Through 1in9 Campaign, she is leading a programme that provides sanitary pads and hygiene products to disadvantaged girls in schools while facilitating conversations on menstrual health, confidence building and bodily autonomy. She also supports gender justice and GBV advocacy work through finance and administrative support.
