Portia Nosipho Ngcobo is passionate about empowering young people, particularly adolescents, to make informed decisions about their health, wellbeing and future. She believes every young person has the right to accurate information, quality healthcare services and supportive environments that help them reach their full potential. Her advocacy focuses on SRHR, teenage pregnancy prevention, GBV prevention, women’s empowerment and gender equality.
Background
Portia is a community development and advocacy practitioner with experience in youth empowerment, SRHR, gender equality, child protection and GBV prevention. Her work supports vulnerable communities through awareness campaigns, community dialogues, educational programmes and advocacy initiatives that promote health, wellbeing and social justice. She works with young people, parents, schools and community stakeholders to address social challenges affecting adolescents and families.

Current Projects / Work
Portia is currently involved in a youth led advocacy programme focused on reducing teenage pregnancy and improving access to SRHR services among adolescents in the uMgungundlovu District, KwaZulu-Natal. The programme is implemented at Siyahlomula High School and uses a peer education model where young people are trained as SRHR ambassadors. The work includes youth dialogues, sports engagements, parent workshops and awareness campaigns, delivered in collaboration with schools, health facilities, social workers and community stakeholders.
