Jessica Nozinhle Maseko is a community advocate, Community Art Counsellor Facilitator, Operations Coordinator and WOSSO Fellow committed to advancing gender equality, mental health and the prevention of gender based violence. Her work is informed by her own journey of healing through community based psychosocial support. She believes lasting social change begins with individual and collective healing, and uses creative and participatory approaches to foster resilience, leadership and social change.

Background

Jessica currently serves as the Operations Coordinator and Community Art Counsellor Facilitator at Lefika La Phodiso Community Art Counselling and Training Institute, where she coordinates organisational operations and facilitates psychosocial support programmes for children, youth, families and communities. She first joined Lefika in 2019 as a programme participant and later completed formal training in Community Art Counselling. She has since facilitated healing groups, supported programme implementation and contributed to work addressing trauma, mental health, youth development and GBV prevention. She is also pursuing studies in Human Resource Management at the University of Johannesburg.

Current Projects / Work

Jessica’s flagship advocacy initiative under the WOSSO Fellowship is Her Mind, Her Power: Community Healing to Advance Gender Equality and End Gender-Based Violence. The project creates healing centred spaces where women and girls can build emotional resilience, increase awareness of GBV, strengthen support networks and become active leaders in their communities. She also coordinates operational systems at Lefika La Phodiso and facilitates art based healing programmes for children, adolescents and adults affected by trauma and social challenges.
