Annie Osawaru is an LGBTQIA+ activist, human rights defender and community leader from Mauritius, currently serving as Director of Collectif Arc-en-Ciel. Her work is driven by a deep commitment to equality, social justice and the belief that everyone should live openly, safely and with dignity. She works closely with LGBTQIA+ communities to advance human rights, challenge discrimination and improve access to support and justice.

Background

Annie works with Collectif Arc-en-Ciel, where she supports programmes that promote the wellbeing, rights and inclusion of LGBTQIA+ people in Mauritius. Her work includes coordinating psychosocial support, legal support, case management services, HIV and STI prevention initiatives, support groups, community empowerment and public awareness programmes.

Current Projects / Work

Annie is currently working on a regional initiative supported by the Marang Southern LGBTQIA+ Fund that focuses on strengthening responses to hate speech affecting LGBTQIA+ communities. She is also involved in advocacy for the legal recognition of transgender and gender-diverse individuals in Mauritius, family support initiatives, and legal clinic work documenting discrimination, harassment, violence and other human rights violations.
