Angelinah Montshiwa is a feminist and human rights activist passionate about advancing gender justice, LGBTQI+ rights and inclusive health services. Her work focuses on supporting marginalised communities through advocacy, policy engagement and community-led initiatives that promote dignity, equality and access to justice. She believes that lasting social change is achieved by amplifying community voices and strengthening feminist movements. Through her advocacy, she works towards a more inclusive, equitable and rights based society where everyone can live free from discrimination and violence.

Background

Angelinah is a feminist and human rights activist with more than seven years of experience advancing human rights in Botswana and the Southern African region. Her work spans advocacy, community mobilisation, litigation support, paralegal services, policy reform and programme implementation, with a particular focus on LGBTQI+ rights, children’s rights, mental health and access to inclusive health services. She has collaborated with civil society organisations across Botswana and South Africa to strengthen community-led advocacy and promote legal and social justice. Her academic background in theology provides a holistic and values driven perspective that informs her feminist approach to transformative justice and social change. She also serves on the Feminist Alliance of Botswana Council, where she contributes to governance, strategic direction and the development of inclusive feminist programming.

Current Projects / Work

Angelinah currently supports LGBTQI+ rights advocacy and community empowerment initiatives through Friends of Diversity. She also contributes to feminist movement building and governance as a Council Member of the Feminist Alliance of Botswana. In addition, she is supporting the planning of the Open Feminist Fair by Feminist Alliance Botswana, themed “60 Years of Her”, which celebrates and profiles 60 womxn for Botswana’s 60th year of independence, recognising the labour, care, creativity, leadership, resistance and survival of womxn who have shaped the country.
