A defender for women's empowerment

Alderman Resta Dzvinyangoma is a resilient and determined Zimbabwean politician who has overcome incredible obstacles to become a leading voice for women's empowerment. Born into a patriarchal society, Dzvinyangoma was denied the right to finish her secondary school education and was married at a tender age. However, these challenges fueled her determination to create a better future for women and girls.

With the support of Gender Links and funding from the European Union, Resta has developed the skills and confidence to challenge the status quo and advocate for women's rights. As a Councillor and Gender Champion, Resta is dedicated to increasing women's representation in politics and promoting economic empowerment. Resta's vision is to see equal representation in all institutions at all levels and for communities to be economically empowered by 2030. She attributes her success to the training and capacity-building programmes provided by Gender Links, which have equipped her with the skills and knowledge to navigate the complexities of politics and advocate for women's empowerment.
