Voice and Choice Southern Africa (VCSA) was a challenge fund that supported innovative ideas from civil society to strengthen sexual and reproductive health and rights (SRHR) across the region. Managed by Gender Links on behalf of Amplify Change, the fund aimed to break the silence around SRHR and advance gender equality and social justice.
Running from 2022 to 2025, the fund invested GBP 1.5 million in 38 women’s rights organisations across eight Southern African Development Community (SADC) countries — including South Africa, Lesotho, Eswatini, Zimbabwe, Madagascar, the Democratic Republic of Congo, and Tanzania.

Through a mix of Movement Building Grants and Opportunity Grants, VCSA strengthened advocacy and action in key areas such as adolescent SRHR, comprehensive sexuality education, menstrual health, early pregnancy, safe abortion, gender-based violence, HIV and AIDS, sex work, and LGBTIQA+ rights.
Guided by feminist funding principles of inclusion, intersectionality, and capacity building, VCSA helped grantees grow their organisations, expand their impact, and continue advancing SRHR long after the fund’s conclusion.
