
Susan Tolmay

Susan has more than 20 years of experience advancing social, political, economic, and environmental justice. She specialises in women's human rights, researching and writing extensively on women's political participation across Africa.
Susan co-authored the African Women’s Political Participation Barometer and contributed to the SADC Gender Protocol Barometer, covering topics from menstrual health to climate justice. She coordinated the SADC Gender Protocol Alliance, successfully advocating for the 2008 Protocol on Gender and Development, and led campaigns on adolescent sexual and reproductive health and rights.
Susan has provided gender integration technical assistance to organisations such as the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation (now the Gates Foundation). She excels in training, facilitation, and developing tailored gender and social inclusion materials. With strong planning, monitoring, and evaluation skills, Susan has a Master’s degree in Governance and Political Transformation and a Bachelor’s degree in Jurisprudence.
