Sunungurai Chingarande

Vice-Chancellor of the Women’s University in Africa, Sunungurai is a gender equality expert for the African Group of Negotiators, which provides evidence-based technical support to African governments for effective engagement in international and national climate change policy formulation. 

Sunungurai holds a PhD in Sociology and is Zimbabwe’s representative on the African Vice Chancellors’ Forum; Africa representative on the International Association of Universities board; a member of the Zimbabwe Council for Higher Education; and board member of the Centre for Zimbabwean Studies at Rhodes University and the Forum for African Women Educationalists. She is also an advisory group member for the Southern Africa HIV & AIDS Information Dissemination Service. 

Sunungurai has also served as Vice-Chancellor of the Zimbabwe Ezekiel Guti University and headed the Sociology Department at the University of Zimbabwe. She has won several awards for her outstanding performance as an educationalist and administrator.
