Local Action for Gender Justice facilitator – South Africa

Before Naledi joined us in 2021, we recognised her as a Driver of Change for Gender Mainstreaming in Local Government (2011 to 2016). At that time, she was working in the Capricorn District Municipality (Limpopo) after having left teaching in 2002 for public service. 

 Now Naledi, who is a qualified high school teacher, has certificates on Gender in Everyday Life (2008), Gender Mainstreaming (2009) and Gender as a Catalyst for Change (2009) from the University of Pretoria. 

While Naledi was working in local government, she assisted the South African Local Government Association (SALGA) on gender mainstreaming. During her time with the Capricorn local government, we declared Capricorn a Centre of Excellence in Gender Mainstreaming in the Southern African Development Community. The district municipality also received a SALGA award recognising its commitment to and innovative strategies on fighting gender-based violence. This included Naledi’s translation of pamphlets on gender-based violence into her mother tongue, Sepedi.
