
Makarabo Nthako

Makarabo is a committed advocate for media freedom, digital empowerment and women’s rights in Africa. From 2018 to 2023, she served as a Board Member of the Media Institute of Southern Africa Lesotho, where she was an integral part of the media monitoring committee.
Deeply passionate about community development activities, Marakrabo has worked with rural communities, especially on civic education and food security. Makarabo has also led HIV/AIDS awareness and prevention initiatives and supported programmes for orphans and vulnerable children.
In March 2024, Marabo was appointed as a Sub-Sahara Ambassador fellow for the United Nations Institute for Training and Research (Unitar), where she focuses on advancing digital skills across the continent.
Makarabo’s passion for women’s empowerment led her to establish Liolong Women Empowerment in 2020. Through Liolong, she has been instrumental in creating opportunities for women to enhance their skills, engage in income-generating activities, and actively participate in socio-economic development.
