A Chartered Accountant (Lesotho) and Past President of the Lesotho Institute of Accountants (2009-2012), Lerata is managing partner at Pekane Chartered Accountants and was Principal Secretary of the Ministry of Small Business Development, Cooperatives and Marketing (August 2017 – August 2020). 

Ambassador for Lesotho Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Lerata has gained vast experience in financial, taxation, auditing, business and governance issues over more than 20 years. Other roles include several board memberships and a former partnership at New Dawn Chartered Accountants (2012-2017).
