Botswana Trans Initiative began its journey in 2021 as a small, grassroots support group for transgender and gender-diverse persons in Botswana. With a deep commitment to human rights and social justice, we create a safe and inclusive space for people navigating the challenges of being trans in a largely conservative society. We recognize the urgent need for a more unified and structured approach to addressing the systemic barriers faced by the trans and gender-diverse community.

Project: Beyond Visibility
The project aims to address the legal and policy systematic exclusion of trans and gender diverse communities in Botswana by strengthening trans led advocacy, building institutional strategic partnerships, and strengthening community driven advocacy and accountability measures in legal and health systems. We aim to influence national laws and policies including institutional practices to uphold the rights dignity and inclusion of trans diverse rights. The project will strengthen visibility, representation, influence of trans led organisations in decision making spaces that have historically excluded us ensuring that trans people are recognized, protected and consulted in the development of legal frameworks.
