2005 Media on the a-Gender

This report assesses the extent to which the media in Southern Africa has complied with the provisions of the SADC Declaration on Gender and Development and related commitments as part of an audit undertaken ahead of the 2005 Heads of State summit. Women are both under represented in, and portrayed in a narrow range of roles in the mainstream media: most often either as victims of violence or as sex objects. Southern Africa is no exception.
