Zibagwe Rural District Council is implementing the Promoting Gender Inclusive Local Economic Development in Zimbabwe programme to promote Local Economic Development through the use of clean energy, biogas in particular. The project is set to benefit close to 1650 individuals in 33 wards including school children. Biogas will provide an alternative source of energy and pave way for conservation of natural resources. 

Zibagwe Rural District is situated in the Midlands Province sitting under 878 143 hectares of land. It was born after the amalgamation of Mashambazhou District Council and Kwekwe Rural Council in July 1993. The local authority is a hub for rural local authorities in the Midlands province. In addition, they have championed gender based violence of young people particularly the girl child in their gender mainstreaming activities.

Key Achievements

Council has facilitated an entrepreneurship finance schemes with Women’s Bank and Empower Bank so that women, men, people living with disability, and youth can benefit in accessing finances for business at very low interest. 

The LED plan and budget are in place, with USD 115,076.00 (2%) of the total council budget allocated to LED activities. 

The partnership with Rural Electrification Authority (REA) highlights the council's commitment to innovative solutions, such as biogas technology, which can drive sustainability and energy efficiency.
