Urban municipality of Mahanoro

Located in the Atsinanana region, the urban commune of Mahanoro has a population of 33,506, including 15,458 men and 18,048 women. The population lives mainly from fishing and agriculture. After the rehabilitation of the road connecting the municipality to the capital, the town has become a popular tourist destination for Tananarivians, thanks to its seaside resort. The municipality has 20 public primary schools, 5 public secondary schools, and 2 public high schools. The municipality adopted the center of excellence process in 2011 and has since begun implementing its gender action plan.
