La commune urbaine d’Ambovombe est le chef-lieu de la région Androy. Sa superficie est de 55 773 Ha. Deux routes nationales à traverser la commune tel que le Route national N°10 et 13. Le nombre de la population est de 77 000 d’après le dernier recensement de l’année 2008. La commune possède deux marchés ainsi que un marché de bovin.
