Umzingwane District is located in the Northeastern part of Matabeleland South Province where it shares the administrative boundaries with four other districts which are Umguza to the northeast, Insiza to the west, Gwanda to the South and Matobo to the west.

Umzingwane District is located in the North Eastern part of Matebeleland South Province wherei it shares the administrative boundaries with four other districts which are Umguza to the north east, Insiza to the west, Gwanda to the South and Matobo to the west. The District covers an area of 2797 square kilometres.

Umzingwane RDC is a spoke council in the hub and spoke programme for gender mainstreaming in local authorities. The council was mentored by Umguza Rural District Council and has a gender policy that governs its gender initiatives. According to the 2022 population census Umzingwane had 17,958 households with an average size of 4.0 per household.

Dedicated a farmhouse for safe shelter for victims of Gender Based Violence. 

One of the few councils with a female Chief Executive Officer in Matabeleland South.
