Senekane Community Council

Introduction

Linecurve pink 2x

Senekane is a community council area located in the Berea District of the Kingdom of Lesotho. It sits at an elevation of around 1,800 metres. The terrain is typical of Lesotho’s highland rural settings—scattered settlements, rugged access roads in places, and a strong connection to subsistence farming, grazing and community-based livelihood activities.

The Senekane Community Council is the local governing body responsible for development planning, infrastructure (such as rural access roads, water supply and sanitation), environmental work, land allocation and community engagement within the Senekane area. Notably, the council has been recognised for its efforts in gender-mainstreaming and inclusive governance: by 2013 it had achieved a 50 % female representation among its 18 councillors, and two of its committees were chaired by women.
