Rushinga Rural District Council is strategically located in Mashonaland Central Province, and is comprised of rural areas such as Nyamatikiti, Rushinga, Chimhanda, and Rusambo.

Introduction

Rushinga Rural District Council is strategically located in Mashonaland Central Province, and is comprised of rural areas such as Nyamatikiti, Rushinga, Chimhanda, and Rusambo. It has 25 wards, 18,568 households with an average household size of 4.1.
The major livelihoods activities of the people of Rushinga are agrarian-based, crops like cotton and maize. Other sources of livelihood include selling fish from neighbouring Mozambique and gold panning. The council is a spoke council in the hub and spoke programme for gender mainstreaming in local authorities, mentored by Bindura RDC.


Key Achievements

Constructed two classroom blocks at Katakura Secondary School.
Engaged the local leadership to find a solution to the scourge of illegal panning and land degradation.
