Rural municipality of Ranopiso

The rural municipality of Ranopiso is located 35 km north of the capital of the Anosy Region. It covers an area of 543 km², 80% of which is arable land. The population was estimated at 20,000 in 2014. Ranopiso has eleven public primary schools and two basic health centers.

Ranopiso’s main agricultural activity is rice production, which reached 250 tons in 2013. Ranopiso also engages in cattle farming and supplies milk to surrounding districts, including the urban municipality of Fort-Dauphin, with a production capacity of more than 500 liters per day.
