Introduction

Mianavaratra is a council located in the district of Fandriana, in the Amoron'i Mania region. The main occupations of the population are agriculture, livestock farming, and gold mining. Before Gender Links (GL) became involved, the commune of Miarinavaratra had already integrated a gender approach into its communal policy in partnership with the ACORD project.
The women's association “08 Mars” had already been created and a structure called the “Gender Steering Committee (CPG)” had been set up. At the end of the ACORD project, the CPG continued to carry out its gender activities in collaboration with the SAHA program. Currently, the CPG committee is still operational and the association has 25 members, including 13 women and 12 men. Municipal officials and the community are aware of the importance of a participatory approach in development policies.
The community recognizes that development begins at the household level with the effective participation of women and men. In addition to the communities taking responsibility, the mayor is also very active in organizing gender-related events.
Thanks to the implementation of a gender action plan by GL, the municipality has been able to undertake several activities, including: the establishment of a gender committee at the level of the seven CSB IIs in this municipality, the existence of an annual operational plan approved by the councilors, the celebration of March 8, the 16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence, support for vulnerable women, and the construction of various infrastructure projects (public lighting). It should be noted that the budget allocated to various gender-related activities is quite substantial.
