The rural commune of Maroalopoty is located 25 km from the urban commune of Ambovombe, in the Androy Region. It covers an area of 342 km2 and has a coastline. The commune is classified as a dry region because annual rainfall is less than 400 mm. The population is 56,394.

Introduction
