Plumtree Town sits on the western side of Zimbabwe in Matabeleland South Province, 100km southwest of the city of Bulawayo and 10km from the Zimbabwe- Botswana border.

Introduction

Plumtree Town sits on the western side of Zimbabwe in Matabeleland South Province, 100km southwest of the city of Bulawayo and 10km from the Zimbabwe- Botswana border. It is the economic hub for Bulilima and Mangwe districts. Plumtree town council can be traced back from 1897 where it started operating as a railway station that was the period when the railway line to Bulawayo was being constructed.
The council is a spoke council in the hub and spoke programme for gender mainstreaming in local government where it is being mentored by Beitbridge Municipality. According to the 2022 population census it has only 6 wards with a total of 4,212 households with an average household size of 3,4.


Key Achievements

Established a water and sanitation projects that included rehabilitation of hospital sewer line.
Rehabilitated Mangwe dam raw water line to enable and facilitate easy access to water.
