Oshakati is a town that has a population of about 37,000 in the Oshana Region of Namibia. It is the regional capital and was officially established in July 1966.

The council is currently working towards implementing policies that will help with the reduction of gender-based violence (GBV) within the community. There are seven councillors within the council, of which four of those are men and three are women. The Mayor and Deputy Mayor are both females.
