Nkayi Rural District Council is located to the North-East of Matabeleland North province comprising of two constituencies, Nkayi North and Nkayi South.

 
Nkayi RDC comprises of thirty (30) administrative wards, 156 villages, 1 growth point and five chiefs presiding over the area. The population survives mainly on agri-business. Livestock-rearing constitutes 70% of the district’s economic activities. The total households are 24,016 with an average household size of 4.7 according to 2022 population census.
Nkayi Rural District Council is a spoke council in the hub and spoke programme for gender mainstreaming in local government being mentored by Umguza RDC.
