Murewa Rural District Council is situated in Mashonaland East province of Zimbabwe, 75 kilometres northeast from the capital city, Harare. The district covers an area of 567,382 hectares and shares boundaries with Uzumba Maramba Pfungwe, Marondera, Mutoko, Goromonzi, and Chaminuka. The major economic activities in the local authority are agriculture, horticulture and animal husbandry.

The council is a hub council for Mashonaland East province rural councils in the Hub and Spoke programme for gender mainstreaming in Zimbabwe. Murewa RDC was also part of the sunrise campaign.
