Introduction

Mbire district is located in the Zambezi valley, approximately 200km north of Harare, Zimbabwe’s capital. Mbire is home to some of the country’s best-kept tourism and heritage secrets. It boasts vast tracts of land facing the mighty Zambezi River waterfront at Kanyemba. This is also the border separating Zimbabwe, Zambia and Mozambique.
The council is a spoke council in the hub-and-spoke programme for gender mainstreaming, mentored by Bindura RDC.
Mbire RDC has 17 wards 19,915 households with an average household size of 4.2 according to the 2022 population census. The council is supporting marginalised communities like the Doma people with vocational training skills. The council also partnered with Campaign for Female Education (CAMFED) to encourage young girls to go to school by providing them with bicycles for use to and from school. This also curbs gender-based violence. The council participated at its first local government SADC Protocol@Work summit in 2020.
