Introduction

Mapoteng is a focal point for local development initiatives within the Berea District. Agricultural and livelihood interventions are actively taking place: for example, farmers in the area are participating in the International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD)-supported programmes and the SHEP (Smallholder Horticultural Empowerment & Promotion) model to enhance production and generate income.
The Mapoteng Community Council is the local government body responsible for governance, service delivery and development planning in the Mapoteng area. Under the local government structure of Lesotho, community councils like Mapoteng play a role in overseeing functions such as local economic development, water supply, rural roads and public participation.
