Manyame Rural District Council is a local government authority in Mashonaland East Province, Zimbabwe, dedicated to serving the needs and improving the lives of its communities.

Introduction

Manyame Rural District Council is a local government authority in Mashonaland East Province, Zimbabwe, dedicated to serving the needs and improving the lives of its communities. It is located about 54 km south-west of Harare on the main Harare–Masvingo road where it crosses the Mupfure river.
It is one of the few local authorities in Zimbabwe that is led by a female CEO. The council comprises of 27 councillors, 26% (7) of whom are female. The council is serving a population of 200,476, where 51% (102,907) are females and 49% (97,569) are males. The total number of households under Manyame RDC is 52,704, with an average size of 3.8.
Manyame RDC is implementing the Promoting Gender Inclusive Local Economic Development in Zimbabwe. The project is pursuing mushroom farming as a means to promote Local Economic Development. The project will leverage on expertise from surrounding farmers who will assist with technical expertise.
The council has been supporting survivors of gender-based violence and is actively working towards reducing GBV in the community. The local authority has also strengthened their gender mainstreaming practices by coming up with a gender committee.
