Introduction

Linecurve pink 2x

Likila is a community council located in the Butha-Buthe District of Lesotho. The area lies at around 1,618 meters above sea level, reflecting the mountainous terrain typical of much of Lesotho. The community comprises a number of villages, such as Ha Bafokeng, Ha Katamelo, Ha Mashopha, Ha Paramente, Thaba-Boqele, Peaballong, and many others, forming a diverse and dispersed rural landscape.

Governance in Likila is handled by the Likila Community Council, which is the formal local government structure at the grassroots level. The council includes elected councillors—both men and women—and works closely with traditional authorities, including the principal chief of Likila as well as area chiefs under his jurisdiction. Its mandate covers local development planning, resource management, infrastructure (like roads), and coordination with central government agencies.
