Karoi Town Council is a local authority situated in Mashonaland West Province, Central Northern Zimbabwe. It is located approximately 85km by road, North-West of Chinhoyi, the Provincial Capital.

Introduction

Karoi Town, was initially established as a service centre to act as a focal point for the distribution of farm inputs and as a collection centre for agricultural products. Karoi grew steadily until after independence when it merited upgrading into town Council status. Karoi urban set-up was accorded a town status on 17 April 1991. Karoi Town Council is a local authority situated in Mashonaland West Province, Central Northern Zimbabwe. It is located approximately 85km by road, North-West of Chinhoyi, the Provincial Capital. It lies 200km North-West of Harare along the Harare-Chirundu Highway to Zambia
The council is a spoke council in the hub and spoke programme for Gender mainstreaming in local government. It is mentored by Chinhoyi Municipality. It serves a population of 37,564 with 10,116 households with an average size of 3.7 per household.


Key Achievements

Council created formal vending stalls for community members.
Council allocated a substantial budget to gender-related projects, between 2016 and 2017.
Provision of opportunities to people with disability to participate in council activities.
