Municipality of Kariba is located in Kariba town (Mashonaland West Province) at the shores of Lake Kariba with its dam wall forming the border with Zambia.

Introduction

Municipality of Kariba is located in Kariba town (Mashonaland West Province) at the shores of Lake Kariba with its dam wall forming the border with Zambia. The town was established to house workers who were constructing the dam in the mid to late 1950s for electricity generation. Located in the Zambezi Valley, Kariba benefits from a warm climate during the whole year. Kariba is one of the major tourist destinations in Zimbabwe and its hospitality industry consists of hotels, lodges, camp sites, chalets, craft markets, the magnificent curvature Kariba Dam Wall, game parks, Operational Noah and Saint Barbara Church monuments.
Most of the attractions in Kariba to tourist are water-based that is Fishing, game-viewing and house-boating are the most popular activities. A visit to the Kariba Dam wall is also impressive along with a visit to the crocodile farm. The council is a spoke in the hub and spoke programme for gender mainstreaming, mentored by Chinhoyi Municipality. Council serves 7,699 households with an average size of 3.6 per household.
