Hurungwe District is situated in the north-western part of Zimbabwe in Mashonaland West, It boarders Makonde district to the South and Guruve district of Mashonaland Central to the north.

Introduction

Hurungwe District is situated in the north-western part of Zimbabwe in Mashonaland West, it boarders Makonde district to the South and Guruve district of Mashonaland Central to the north. It is the largest district in Mashonaland West, with a total area of 19 678.34 square km. The district has one of the country’s biggest game reserves in the Zambezi Valley conservation area.
Hurungwe RDC is a spoke council in the hub and spoke programme for gender mainstreaming in local government, mentored by Zvimba RDC. It serves a total of 89,117 households with an average size of 4 per household.


Key Achievements

Council has a climate change bio-diversity programme meant to empower women through the CAMPFIRE programme.
Council adopted the use of Solar jet ban as a modification system placed on the tobacco rocket ban furnace system to cure tobacco assisting in reducing deforestation.
Hurungwe RDC had crafted a number of gender-related policies to guide its work.
