City of Gweru, the City of Progress, is situated at the heart of Zimbabwe with a road and rail network that links it with all other major towns in the country. 
According to the 2022 population census Gweru has got 18 wards, 44,808 households with an average household size of 3.8. It hosts one of the largest institutions of higher learning Midlands State University which brings in a lot of students’ population. Gweru City Council is a hub council under the hub and spoke programme for gender mainstreaming, mentoring Midlands province urban councils.
