Gokwe Town Council was established in 2006 and is divided into six wards with semi-arid climatic conditions which usually experiences annual rainfall ranging between 250-500mm.

Introduction

Gokwe Town Council was established in 2006, and is divided into six wards with semi-arid climatic conditions which usually experiences annual rainfall ranging between 250-500mm. Gokwe has four primary schools and four secondary schools, with a pupil-teacher ratio of 43:1 and 48:1, respectively. It serves 9,189 households with an average household size of 3.6 as per the 2022 population census.
The council anchored the Hub Councils in the Midlands province in 2020. The council has developed a gender policy. Some of the gender mainstreaming activities the council is undertaking include a health club which is responsible for waste management and recycling in the town. The council is now a spoke council in the hub and spoke programme for gender mainstreaming in local government.
