Introduction

Gokwe South Rural District Council is a pivotal institution in Midlands Province, Zimbabwe, with two local government arms, Gokwe Town Council administering Gokwe Urban, and Gokwe RDC overseeing the rural Gokwe South District. With a population of approximately 317,553 people, the council plays a crucial role in providing essential services, including social services, infrastructure development, and environmental management.
Agriculture is a significant sector in Gokwe South, with opportunities in livestock, horticulture, and cropping. Additionally, the presence of gold deposits in the eastern part of the district offers opportunities for mining activities.
Gokwe South faces challenges such as human-animal conflicts and densely populated settlements. Limited access to vocational training and educational facilities also hinders the development of the district. Council is a spoke council in the hub and spoke programme for gender mainstreaming in local government, mentored by Zibagwe RDC.
