Chiredzi Rural District Council is located in the South-Eastern region of Zimbabwe sharing borders with Mozambique and South Africa.

Introduction

Chiredzi Rural District Council is located in the South-Eastern region of Zimbabwe in Masvingo province. It shares boundaries with the following districts Chipinge, Bikita, Zaka, Masvingo, Chivi, Mwenezi and Beitbridge covering about 36000 square kilometers.
The district also shares borders with Mozambique and South Africa which enable the three governments to amalgamate some of the world’s largest wildlife sanctuaries, thus Limpopo National Park, Kruger National Park and Gonarezhou National Park for Mozambique, South Africa and Zimbabwe respectively. The district lies in Natural Region V characterized by very high summer temperatures and cool winters with an annual average temperature of about 28˚C. The council is a spoke council in the hub and spoke programme for gender mainstreaming. The council serves 71,885 households with an average household size of 4.2.


Key Achievements

Council allocated 45% of market stands and 34% housing stands to women.
Women occupy 33% of the council’s workforce with posts like Accountant, Senior Clerks, Clerks, Gender Focal Person.
