Chegutu Rural District Council shares Chegutu town with Chegutu Municipality.

Introduction

Chegutu Rural District Council shares Chegutu town with Chegutu Municipality. It is the commercial and administrative Centre of the surrounding district having been established as a mining settlement by gold prospectors, mining for gold and nickel remains important in the area. Its economy is agro-based with crops like, maize and cotton production being major hence Zimbabwe’s largest textile mills was established there.
The council is a spoke council in the hub and spoke programme for gender mainstreaming in local government, mentored by Zvimba RDC. Chegutu Rural District Council serves 29 wards with 46,333 households and an average household size of 3.9 according to the 2022 population census.


Key Achievements

Chegutu Rural District Council installed two piped water schemes in ward 7 and 8.
Council partnered with the private sector to construct and provide medical supplies to health facilities.
Council has got ward gender committees that are vibrant which reports to the social services department.
