With a population of 169, 841, Bindura Rural Dural Council is situated in the farming and mining area of Mashonaland Central northeast of Harare. It has got 21 wards and is well known for agriculture and mineral wealth like gold and nickel. Bindura Rural District Council has 27 councillors and 41,255 households with an average household size of 4.1.
Its close proximity to Harare makes the rural district council more attractive to access a variety of services. It is one of the few councils that is being headed by a female CEO. Bindura Rural District Council is a hub council for Mashonaland Central rural councils under the hub and spoke programme for gender mainstreaming. The council attained the Bronze rating at the 2020 local government SADC Protocol@Work summit.
